Garram Children’ School (”the School” or GCS) is situated in Garram District in Plateau State, Nigeria. A large proportion of the population of the area lives in poverty, unable to adequately feed, cloth, or educate their children. Garram District is located in a remote rural area of Kanke LGA. There is a severe lack of clean water and basic hygiene and good educational institutions.
GCS helps hundreds of Children in both Kanke and Pankshin Local Government Areas to escape from poverty and provides care and assistance for Boys and Girls of all ages by raising funds for projects offering relief from poverty for these boys and girls. The School is helping disadvantaged children improve their opportunities and lifestyles by encouraging them to obtain education and training to develop their self-esteem; this has enabled them to break out of the poverty trap. Garram Children’s School also provides support for their families and the local community through its adult literacy program.
The pre-school nursery section encourages children and their families to accept regular attendance at school from the earliest age. This also relieves older brothers and sisters from child-minding duties while mother and father work. Learning through play makes the experience a happy one and forms good habits from an early age.
